Not only English Christmas carols are remade every holiday (such as Baby It’s Cold Outside), but also Korean classics. Kim Bum Soo and Lena Park (also known as Park Jung Hyun) remade the 90s hit White Winter. Both singers give White Winter – originally performed by Mr. 2 – a fresh and modern sound. It’s the third time Kim Bum Soo and Lena Park teamed up in 2012 and their remake is joined by a music video. Lena Park was born and raised in the USA and won several competitions in her childhood, showing her early interest in singing. She struggled with Korean language in the beginning of her career, but finally became satisfied with her language level to confidently sing in both languages. She is an active soloist singer, but also known as a collaboration favorite. Kim Bum Soo, on the other hand, is known for his smooth vocals in Korea and his R&B fitting voice has made its way into many K-dramas. His most known song is I Miss You (보고싶다 /bogo shipda/) of the K-drama Stairway to Heaven.
Although both singers can perform emotive ballads 24/7, White Winter has an up-beat melody even though the lyrics are kind of sad. The narrator has mixed feeling after he or she saw is past partner in love with another person. He realizes he finally has to say goodbye to the past, but this harsh reality troubles him as he is not ready yet. At least he wants time for his wounds to heal until he can love again, and wishes his partner would feel the same. As this is not the case he’ll wait “until the tears of longing fall down for all the moments I stood alone in the snow”.
