Musikvideo mit deutschen Untertiteln

Christmas is finally here and it’s time to celebrate. Yes, we made it through the Christmas Calendar and thank you for everybody who stayed tuned until the end. I really really appreciate it so much! 🙂  Santa has already brought all presents to children in Germany and they will unwrap on today’s evening – so I guess it’s time to say “Thank you” to Santa. This is also the message of our last song Santa, U Are The One – sung by no other major K-pop band than Super Junior Continue reading

Day 23, Love In The Air by Jellyfish Artists

Hier gehts zum deutschen Text

Jellyfish Entertainment does not only have a fancy name, but also provides us with great Christmas songs and collaborations every year. Once again they picked their top artists and had them record a holiday song for this winter. In Love In The Air the vocals of VIXX, Seo In-Guk, former Jewelry member Park Jung-Ah and “K-Pop Star 4″ contestant Park Yoon-Ha (sadly Sung Si-Kyung is missing) perform a cozy Christmas ballad. Although the lyrics can be solemly read as the narrator hoping for finding his love on Christmas, I’d say he actually wishes for more love in the world on Christmas

Day 22, I Do I Do by Secret

Hier gehts zum deutschen Text

It’s time for a more fun and upbeat Christmas song again: I Do I Do does just the thing. It’s a bouncy mid-tempo K-pop song which is full of charms. Once known as a sexy (and plus-size in my view) girl band, Secret is all adorable and cute again in this video. They surely had songs which showed their vocal abilities better, but, well, it’s a Christmas song and it’s not that bad. Sadly the lyrics are flat, lack depth and therefore, targeted to a teenager audience. Yet, the music video Continue reading

Day 21, Miracles in December by EXO

Hier gehts zum deutschen Text

Christmas K-pop songs don’t always have to be fun, festive or have a simple concept or story line – this is what SM Entertainment proved with EXO‘s Miracles in December. EXO benefits highly from SM Entertainment poring all their money into their development and their staff’s creative mind. Already having two mega hits in 2013 (Wolf and Growl) EXO continued their success with their first winter album Miracles in December with the same named title track which was released with a music video in Korean and Chinese. As in Day 6, Christmas Day not all EXO members are taking part in singing, but only the three main vocalists Baekhyun, Chen and D.O Continue reading

Day 20, White by DSP Friends

Hier gehts zum deutschen Text

Just a few days left till Christmas and we are turning down the tune to more slow-tempo K-pop songs. There are so many K-pop idols how can you do all of them justice on Christmas? The solution for agencies is of course to form collaborations to master this difficulty, but it’s hard to find a music style which fits all their artists. DSP Media released a Christmas album 2014 on which you can find a song of every one of their singing act, however, only the title track White was released with a music video. Kara, Rainbow, A-Jax, Somin and Chaewon of DSP Girls (now known as April) and Oh Jong-Hyuk gather to sing a light and uncomplicated track. Sadly, the male voices are not strong enough to keep up with the female voices and get lost in the background. Continue reading

Day 19, Before the Snow by Kanto (feat. As One)

Hier gehts zum deutschen Text

While searching the internet for some new K-pop Christmas songs I passed by Kanto and Before the Snow and I found it intriguing right away. First of all, it is different from your average K-pop song though I can’t really point my finger on it. Is it because the majority of the song is rapped? Or because the voices of Kanto and As One just match so perfectly? A really stern male voice struggling to convey his feelings and light feminine voices shyly wishing to be with him. Why does this song feel so much more honest than

Day 18, Lonely Christmas by Crayon Pop

Are you bored and stuck in school, uni or at work? Then there is no better way to ring in the weekend and pump up your mood than with Lonely Christmas. Yes, this is everything you might picture K-pop to be like – the stereotypical K-pop: cute girls, a crazy concept, in-your-face outfits, an intriguing dance, hilarious Korean humor, a persumably simple music video and an awfully catchy tune. It’s Crayon Pop and being simple, but unique, having a sing-along song and an easy to pick up choreo is was Crayon Pop stands for.

Who ever you think was the greatest K-pop act in Korea 2013, it wasn’t, Continue reading

Day 17, You Can Cry by BtoB

Hier gehts zum deutschen Text

It’s BtoB again. We already had on Day 5, The Winter’s Tale as a track of their Christmas album 2014. Both songs were released as kind of couple track which is clearer if you know the Korean titles. The original Korean title of Winter’s Tale can be translated into “don’t cry” which matches to You Can Cry . As said before, especially young idols have to keep up their cute image once in a while. Even though You Can Cry is less cheesy than Winter’s Tale it still has an innocent, nice guy image (for which I guess I’m getting to old). As BtoB already play the cute part well enough I’m relieved that the video’s concept isn’t too festive and complicated. Strangely it feels less fake Continue reading

Day 16, Goodbye to Romance by Sunny Hill

Hier gehts zum deutschen Text

On Monday we were jingling happily to Pink Romance by Starship Planet today we are more melancholic with saying Goodbye to Romance. This track which is dedicated to childhood wraps up Sunny Hill‘s successful year 2012. Even though it is a sentimental song – which I stated before I’m not a particularly keen of – I congratulate the girls and their agency for being more creative and bringing more depth to the K-pop Christmas lyrics. In contrast to all the joy we have seen in other videos, Goodbye to Romance reminds us that Christmas is also the most nostalgic time of the year in which you reflect and cherish memories of the past. Day 15, Dear Santa by Girls’ Generation-TTS

Click here for the English MV Version

Dear Santa stands for all the K-pop Christmas tracks which didn’t make it into my Christmas Calendar this year. So if you have a special wish – for maybe next year – you can write it below the post. There are some really well made music videos (such as EXO‘s Sing For You) or audio tracks (such as B1A4‘s It’s Christmas) which were released this winter, and there are still more to come (such as April‘s Snowman or Baekhyun feat. IU) to which you can look forward to. Sadly, there is just never enough space for all of them.

For today I chose a song I actually don’t fancy at all, but it’s not (only) up to my personal taste here. I try not to be too harsh as I don’t want to upset any Girls’ Generation fans too much, but I hope you can respect my personal opinion. Girls’ Generation – as one of the most outstanding and worldwide known K-pop girl groups – decided to form a sub-group for their vocals in 2012. It contains Continue reading
